HabariSearch, the Free Web Directory for East and Southern Africa

Submitted by admin on September 12, 2012 - 16:55

As the title suggests, HabariSearch Web Directory is a free web directory for the whole of East and Southern Africa. It means unlike many other web directories, you submit your site without payment. Many web directories require a recurring fee to have you include your website for a given period of time.

The website links in a web directory are listed in categories and subcategories enabling you to easily find the site you are looking for, as long as it is in the database at the time.

Using a web directory

Supposing you are looking for secondary schools in Uganda, you could simply got to "Uganda" and look for the category with education-related websites "Education and Reference", which is then further categorized.

Here is the structure:

  • Uganda
  • "Education and Reference" under which we have:
    Higher EducationReferenceNGOs
    Secondary SchoolsKindergarten
    Primary SchoolsInternational Schools

For Universities, you would need to look under "Higher Education", which has further subcategories.

This is a bit comparable to a local telephone directory and in other respects to a form of yellow pages.

To find Kenyan Government related sites, you would simply click your way to Kenya => Government, whose link is: http://www.habarisearch.com/Kenya/Government/

Advantages of a web directory

If you are looking for web sites in a certain category and have the address of such a web directory, like http://www.habarisearch.com/, you can easily get an overview and use the provided links to access them.

If you own a web site or know the address of one you would like to share, after submitting it to HabariSearch, we help you get more advertized and exposed to potential, possibly business or other guests through using our platform. Apart from getting guests who directly come to the directory, Habarisearch creates SEO friendly links, easily spidered by Google and other search engines, which considerably improves their placement in search engine results. The architecture of a web directory matters and this does not automatically follow just because your site is in some directory, free or paid.

  • a web directory provides a ready backlink to your site. Many search engines consider the number of backlinks to your site. The more the better.
  • it increases your online visibility. Lots of guests come to our web directory each single day, which increases the chances of your site being visited.
  • a good argument for HabariSearch is it is FREE. The required registration takes just a few moments.

Getting your site into HabariSearch web directory

To submit your site, simply go to http://www.habarisearch.com/ and register. This takes a few moments. After this, log in and submit your private, business, school or whatever site you have. It helps to provide as much information as possible about your business or whatever your site represents. This can be email, telephone and fax numbers and even include the exact location on Google Maps. This makes sense for business and other similar sites as customers know how to contact you or find your premises. The help page shows how to do this, though one can get further information by asking specific questions via the contact page, if your questions are not addressed there.

HabariSearch is human-edited, meaning the links are not auto-listed. Each submitted link is checked by our editors before being approved. This helps to ensure submitted sites are in the correct categories and conform to our policies. Furthermore, spam links are weeded out. Site approval mostly happens within 1 - 3 days.

Expansion to Southern Africa

Previously Habarisearch had East African sites from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Malawi, Djibouti, Zambia, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Comoros, Somalia, Réunion and Mozambique. It has however of late expanded to cover websites from Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana and Swaziland, thus covering the whole of Eastern and Southern Africa.

This is slowly but surely turning Habarisearch into what is practically a leading business directory, tourism directory or simply a web directory for East and Southern Africa.
