Hi
There are surely some very good free anti-virus programs out there for personal use.
I can think of- Avast from http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download [Our avast! Free Antivirus is the minimum protection you should have — it provides great protection against viruses and spyware. ], which I actually use.
- AVG free version from http://free.avg.com/de-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free
- Avira AntiVir from http://www.free-av.com/en/index.html
All these have paid versions as well, but the free versions as shown in many tests carried out by PC/Internet magazines show they provide sufficient security for most home PCs.
PC security can be enhanced further by installing a firewall.
The most commonly used & very reliable firewall is the free version of Zone Alarm from http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firew...
Note that most of this software is free only for personal use and may require free registration.
Avast on registration gives you a free licence for a year, which can then be renewed.
Zone Alarm requires registration to get updates, which are actually necessary.
